Protein Pancakes!

Happy Tuesday everyone! It's Mardi Gras! With this celebration comes a tradition of pancakes. Who doesn't love pancakes? They're good any time of day, especially with some natural Quebec maple syrup. It's like heaven in a cute little can.

I know a lot of my readers are uber health conscious, and always looking for the next best healthy food replacements, to satisfy the cravings of the crap we're normally used to eating. SO with that said I put together a few recipes for protein pancakes!! They're pretty different from one another, so I totally suggest trying both out. Why not? Its PANCAKES!!

My first recipe comes from health enthusiast blogger Honey We're Home. Her take on pancakes is more dense and less cake-y than the traditional light and fluffy pancake, but they're SO good you can eat them every day, with NO guilt!!

Dare I say these might also be gluten free?

Your first ingredient is Oats. about 1/4 to a 1/2 cup depending on the size of the pancake you're trying to achieve. If its just one for you, go with 1/4. She grinds them up in the food processor and keeps them on hand in a container, but you can leave them whole if you wish.

Next up, egg whites. Why just egg whites? Because you don't need the egg yellows, this is a protein pancake!! 4 of them get tossed into the bowl with those bad ass oats you just measured out. She uses "all whites" that come in a container so less waste of yolk. (sidenote: if you own a dog, you can always treat him to egg yolks on his kibble for some raw diet treats)

They are then "flavored" with cinnamon and or vanilla, and prepared like you would a normal pancake. Top with natural peanut butter and banana slices and voila! Pretty freaking easy right? I thought so. Imagine one of these right before your morning workout. BAZINGA!

Next up is a recipe I pulled off Hungry and Fit Dot Com. It's a little more complex, but for the protein addicts you more than likely have all the ingredients handy already. These are affectionately referred to as 5-minute pancakes. I'm not sure if that's a play on words to make them sound simple, but I'm used to 30 second pancakes myself.

This recipe starts off with asking for 1/2 cup of Almond Vanilla milk (or chocolate), even though I'm a firm believer that all wet ingredients should be added last in case you need more or less, and one scoop of protein powder. They used MTS Machine Chocolate Whey.

Next up is half a small over-ripe banana mushed into oblivion and added to your above mixture. Then add cinnamon and vanilla to taste again. I'm not so sure though that if you used the chocolate almond milk that cinnamon would be a good option, you might opt for nutmeg instead.

The last ingredient on the list is 2 egg whites. Much like the first recipe, you could use organic eggs out of your fridge, or the egg whites from the container.

Stir up your mixture, and this should be enough to make 4 happy pancakes. Some for you, and some to share. Top with maple syrup or greek yogurt.

Soooo much yum!!
